I am a professional, very experienced, qualified & practising secondary school music / piano teacher with over 25 years of experience teaching students of all ages and abilities at my home studio in Hutton, Brentwood, Essex. For more information read my biography page. I currently teach pupils of all ages from 6 – 80+ from beginners to diploma & beyond.
I have a current (enhanced) DBS certificate and I am a member of the Musicians Union. As a Secondary School music teacher all of my qualifications have been checked / validated.
Most of my students opt for serious study taking graded examinations, others learn to play purely for pleasure – it's up to you!
I teach various styles of playing from classical to popular/jazz. As I am a secondary school music teacher, I have a lot of experience teaching up-to and including A Level Music so I regularly teach one to one lessons for GCSE and A Level music too. Other areas of tuition frequently taught include composition, harmony, aural studies, theory and analysis.
Furthermore, I regularly accompany students for examinations.
FAQ
Fees & how long do I need?
Lessons are structured to meet the individual needs of a student. Therefore, lessons last either 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Fees are £20 per 30 mins. More advanced players (grade 6 +) will usually require more than 30 mins. G.C.S.E and A Level tuition can range from 30 – 60 minutes depending on which elements of the course you wish to study.
Do I need regular lessons & what about the school holiday period?
Most students require weekly lessons and continue them during the school holidays as many find that they have the most time to practice during this time.
Where are you based, can I park easily and do you make home visits?
Lessons take place in my home studio in Hutton, Brentwood on a Yamaha U3, upright piano renowned for its quality, clarity and expressive performance. There is alot of parking space on my private drive to leave the car. I do not presently offer home visits.
Do I have to stay for my child’s lesson?
Yes. All students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
What styles/grades & levels do you teach and can I have tuition for theory, G.C.S.E, A Level studies?
I teach various styles of playing from classical to popular/jazz. I regularly teach one to one lessons for all of the above.
Do you teach just theory lessons?
Yes
Do I need to take exams?
No – you can learn just for pleasure. Lessons are tailored for you.
At what age can I start?
There is no age limit but I would advise that the earliest age to begin would be 6 years old. Younger students can really benefit if someone in the family has musical training so additional help is on hand outside lessons.
I've always wanted to learn the piano but am I too old?
You're never too old and I have taught a number of older pupils who have really enjoyed their lessons.
Do I need a piano?
You will need to be able to practice, either on a piano or a keyboard with full sized weighted keys.
Can I hear you play?
Yes – just click on the tuition video on this page.
